Most trans-Atlantic flights from North America are overnight, so you will want to depart from the U.S. or Canada the evening BEFORE your tour starts…for example, if the tour starts on May 1, depart the U.S. the evening of April 30. You will arrive the morning of May 1 and we will meet you at the airport.

We have noticed that some of our travelers do benefit from arriving a day earlier, by checking into a hotel near the airport, and taking some time to visit central Dublin on their own and at their own pace. And then enjoying a good-night rest before the beginning of the tour.

If this is your wish, we suggest you arrive at least one day early, and we will organize your pick up on the first day of the tour, either at Dublin Airport Terminal 2 or at a nearby hotel.

If you want to fly in on the day the tour starts, we will pick you up at Dublin Airport Terminal 2, by the Yellow Sculpture in the Arrivals Hall.

We do suggest an early morning flight arrival for everyone, before 09:00 am, so as to maximize the first day of the tour.

Once you are at Dublin Airport you will need to go through Passport Control and Customs, before meeting our tour driver at the Arrivals Hall. A few months before the tour starts, we will send you a Traveler Form to gather the flight information and other details we might need for your stay.

Wild West Ireland Tours takes no responsibility for delayed airlines and missing the tour’s start, lost baggage, or any injuries that may occur while on tour. We do recommend purchasing travel insurance.

While we do believe in God’s fortune accompanying us on our tours, it is important to consider getting coverage over any unforeseeable events, and avoid any possible cancellation fees on ground arrangements, airline tickets, and medical expenses.

Wild West Ireland Tours does not sell travel insurance policies, nor is responsible for the insurance company’s service.

We kindly suggest that, while selecting the type of coverage you need, you sift through the fine print to determine the policy’s benefits, such as trip cancellation coverage and reimbursements for medical emergencies, inclement weather or delayed baggage, but also and most importantly, its shortcomings.

In case of pre-existing medical conditions:

There are strict terms and conditions associated with policy exclusions for pre-existing medical conditions. Some involve care or treatment before buying the policy. Other requirements include to buy the insurance policy within a couple of weeks after booking the trip, that you’re physically fit on the day you buy insurance and that you list the full nonrefundable prepaid value.

In short: we advice to do some research to ensure you pick a comprehensive policy and purchase the right insurance for you soon after booking your vacation.

When traveling with children on overseas trips, you need to be aware of possible legal issues involving both the United States government and the country you are visiting.

There are certain government guidelines on traveling abroad with children. The U.S. Department of State has a program in place, the Children’s Passport Issuance Alert Program (CPIA), which is a service for parents and legal guardians of minor children. It requires you to submit a written request for entry of the child’s name in the program with the Office of Children’s Issues.

If one of the parents is not traveling, it is necessary to obtain a notarized consent for the child or children to leave the country with the other parent or guardian.

In circumstances where neither parent is accompanying the minor child or children, such as a school trip, teen tour or similar travel arrangement, the parents or guardians need to provide a letter authorizing the travel. This letter should be notarized, as well.

Medical treatment permission for kids traveling without parents is important, too. You will need to provide a medical authorization form to allow the leader of the group to authorize medical care and treatment as needed on an emergency basis.

Many airlines today charge an extra fee for either a specific seat or for advanced seat assignments. You might have to consider paying a little extra to guarantee all seats are together on the aircraft.

All airlines also require a seat for any child two years or older.

If the child is younger than two, he or she may travel as “lap” child. Most carriers will require the purchase of an infant ticket, which is usually less expensive than a child ticket.

Medical coverage while traveling should be checked with your health care provider to determine what medical services might or not be available at the destination(s) you are visiting.

Travel Insurance should be a valid option for you and your family. **

While most families do not encounter any of the issues raised above, it is worthwhile to be prepared and plan ahead.
